Assembly Composites Universal Group offers an extensive range of services to meet the composite tooling needs of our clients.
Composites Universal Group is a world leader in research and development (R&D) and proof of concept (POC) programs. We specialize in finding fast and efficient ways to develop the highest quality product available. Composites Universal Group offers a full service facility to handle all of your projects needs. At program startup we offer technical assistance to our clients in areas such as drawing creation, tooling options, material selection, and part lay out for fabrication to help get the program started on the right track and to get all parties involved moving in the same direction. During the program Composites Universal Group is constantly reviewing the project looking for opportunities to streamline and to make sure parts are designed for ease of lay-up or install. Composites Universal Group also offers guidance in the fabrication of jigs and fixtures for the assembly of the project. We will suggest the right jigs and fixtures for the job based on the amount of production that they will need to be capable of. Once determined, Composites Universal Group is fully capable of fabricating the jigs and fixtures. Composites Universal Group can also provide services in addition to composite assembly. We are fully capable of taking a program to a turn key state to make sure all the systems function properly. In the case of aircraft, we install all of the systems, engines, electronics, etc, and test fly the aircraft right from our hangars located directly on the airport. Composites Universal Group works hard from day one to ensure our clients get an exceptional product with the highest quality and at the best price no matter how big or small the project might be. Composites Universal Group knows our clients can not be on site at all times. That's why we feel it is important to have quality project management. Each project Composites Universal Group starts is assigned a project manager to be the direct contact with the customer. Our project managers are also the point of contact for the various other firms and vendors associated with the project such as engineering firms, systems vendors, and material suppliers. Composites Universal Group project managers keep all parties involved up to date with the latest configurations and progress on the project. By having good project management, Composites Universal Group can coordinate workflow, internally and with other vendors to ensure the highest quality product is achieved in the shortest amount of time and keeping costs to a minimum. PRODUCTION LINE JIGS & FIXTURES
In a production situation it is cost effective for both the customer and Composites Universal Group to create good jigs and fixtures to assure all items for a particular project are fabricated the same. At Composites Universal Group we fabricate all of our own jigs and fixtures and create them using the master tooling for each individual part to assure the correct fit and function. All of our jigs are fabricated using square steel tubing and 1" thick plywood for the cradles. The cradles are slightly undercut and an epoxy past is added. The master plugs are then "bedded" into the cradles and epoxy past to obtain an exact shape. Base jigs are an essential component to any program to ensure the first steps of the assembly process is done properly and keeping the intended shape. Drill jigs are created to ensure hole locations are the same from part to part. Finger jigs are fabricated to locate the internal parts into the outside skins or shells. These finger jigs allow parts to be placed in the correct position without the need for measuring or setting up for alignment checks. Close out jigs are used to "close out" the subassemblies once all of the internals are in place. An example of this would be bonding on a close out wing skin after all of the spars and ribs have been installed into the opposite wing skin. Alignment jigs are created to help assemble the subassemblies to one another, such as a wing to a fuselage. By using jigs and fixtures wherever possible, Composites Universal Group can increase quality, decrease lead times, and give our customers constant repeatability in their projects.
ONE OFF PARTS & SUB ASSEMBLY CAPABILITY Composites Universal Group is not just about large programs. We often are asked to create one time items to meet a need or for someone to have a one of a kind item. Composites Universal Group gives these projects the same attention and detail as all of our other larger programs. Although most items do not require a lot of material tracking or certification paperwork, the project is still treated as if it was and a good history is created for the project. By doing One Off projects Composites Universal Group can help more customers and also helps us to stay sharp and on the leading edge of the composite world. COMPOSITE SUB ASSEMBLIES & COMPOSITE AIRFRAMES Although Composites Universal Group has the capabilities to produce turn key projects such as a flight ready aircraft, most of our production projects leave our facilities in a "sub-assembled" state. These sub-assemblies generally consist of the major components or critical items of a particular project being bonded together at the Composites Universal Group facility, in a controlled and professional environment. These sub assemblies are then shipped out to the customer for completion. Composites Universal Group uses custom built jigs and fixtures to produce these sub-assemblies to maintain repeatability and high standards of quality.
